If An Egg Fertilizes Multiple Sperm: Mol Pregnancy

During the onset of a normal pregnancy, the egg cell receives a single sperm during fertilization and there is no entry of another sperm.

The entry of two sperm stirs in can change the course of pregnancy. With the arrival of two sperms in the egg cell, a structure of large poukes can occur as an abnormal embryo emerges. It’s called mol pregnancy. The formation, also called complete mole, can indicate earlier in pregnancy.

Most pregnant women are unaware of mol pregnancy unless it happens to you. However, knowing the symptoms and having sufficient knowledge about mol pregnancy is very important for early intervention.

Why Does Mol Pregnancy Occur?

Some pregnancies can improve beyond their normal course, affecting the health of the expectant mother. Mol pregnancy, also known as grape pregnancy among the population, is one of them.

Mole pregnancy may be the biggest cause of age factor. Although the exact cause of pregnancy, mole pregnancy is not fully known, the rate of appearance in pregnant women under the age of 20 and over 40 is generally higher. The prevalence of mol pregnancy in all pregnancies is 1 in 1000 on average.

Mole is considered to be among the causes of pregnancy;

• Pregnancy over 40 years

• Those who had previously had mol pregnancies

• Low-payers

• Women with black race

• Unhealthy and unstable diet

What are the Symptoms of Mol Pregnancy?

During mol pregnancy, women often feel normal pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness. Because abnormal placenta can produce hcg, known as the pregnancy hormone, in high amounts. The symptoms that make mol pregnancy different from other pregnancies are:

During early pregnancy, i.e. the first 3 months, unusual vaginal bleeding can be counted. However, not every bleeding mole indicates pregnancy. In fact, very small bleeding, which is called “staining” in the early stages of pregnancy, is considered normal. However, if you have a piece of bleeding in the form of grape grains, you should always consult your doctor.

Pelvis, commonly known as a feeling of pain or pressure in the pelvis, is also one of the symptoms of mol pregnancy. However, early preeclampsia, the baby’s heart rate and movement are not observed, mol can indicate pregnancy.

More severe nausea, vomiting and hair loss than seen in normal pregnancy are important symptoms of pregnancy. However, these symptoms do not indicate that you are experiencing full mol pregnancy. An ultrasound image is required for a definitive diagnosis.

Mole Pregnancy Diagnosis and Treatment

In the examination, a larger uterus is detected than the gestational week. Beta-hCG levels are higher than they should be.

Ultrasound shows grape vines. That’s why it’s called grape pregnancy.

If Mol is detected in pregnancy before hand and abortion is not performed, grape fruit begins to come from similar tissue. Mol should terminate pregnancy with abortion and the procedure should be performed under anesthesia. During the procedure, the uterine walls must be thoroughly cleaned so that the condition does not repeat. Sometimes with drug treatment, mol pregnancy can be terminated.

10-15% of mol pregnancies do not stop growth immediately, so they should be under follow-up for 1 year. For this, the birth control pill should be used. Intrauterine contraception methods are not used. If the hCG level does not return to normal, the expansion and abortion are reapplied. The treatment process continues until hCG level is normal.

Considerations After Treatment

After providing negative B-hCG to patients, it is recommended that they do not become pregnant for 1 year. Due to the danger of puncture and bleeding of the uterus, it will not be recommended to use intrauterine vehicles called spirals. For this reason, the way to protect the woman should be birth control pills.

90% of post-abortion women do not need any further treatment. Beta hCG level should be followed for 1 year after 0, and should not be protected during this period and receded.

In those who have mol pregnancies, the likelihood of having a re-mole pregnancy may vary between 1-2%. In short, the rate of a healthy pregnancy after this procedure is quite high.
